What are you most excited about?
I am looking forward to being in the same building all day and being a resource to students. This is new to me, so we'll have to see what develops in terms of how I can be of service to students and staff. But it is exciting to think about all of the possibilities. There are lots of changes in the library. What is new? Well, (**grin**) the librarian is new. But seriously, the library has been rearranged, painted, has new furniture, and lots of new books. It has a more defined student area now, with a pub style table and a coffee bar. More changes will continue to happen but those are the big things for now. I think it is important to focus too on what is the same. Mrs. Crumly offered lots of great services to our staff and students and my hope is to continue to do that this year. However, this is all new to me, so my real hope is that if there is something Mrs. Crumly did that was helpful, people will step up and remind me/tell me so I can continue those things. What made you decide to become a librarian? It was sort of an accident, or an accidental blessing maybe. Mr. Fernau actually encouraged me to take classes because I was wanting some kind of a change. He new I liked to read and thought it might be a good fit. I am really grateful for that advice, because it got me to think outside of the box and begin something new. Once I started, it all kind of fell into place and it has been an exciting summer getting ready for this new role. What are your favorite kinds of books? I have always loved to read. When I was an elementary student myself, Holt County offered rewards to students who read a lot. I read at least 10 books a month then, and received all kinds of certificates recognizing the reading. At that time there was also a service for rural kids, and I don't even remember the organization that provided it. It was a black and white book catalog that was sent out to students. You could request to borrow the books, they would be mailed to you, and then when you were done you just mailed them back. I LOVED that service, and used it all of the time. Those kinds of things supported my love of reading. My favorite genre has always been historical fiction. I love history, and I love it when an author can provide a lot of historical accuracy and weave a really interesting tale at the same time. But I have also liked certain sorts of fantasy, like Harry Potter. Really, though, if a story is well written, I like almost any genre. Who is your favorite author? I love Rosalind Laker and Diana Gabaldon, two really good historical fiction authors. But I also like Lois Lowry, Suzanne Collins, Ally Condle, and just way too many others to mention.

Have you ever read a book that was so intense that you couldn’t stop reading. Well, if you haven’t, I suggest that you read the book “Speak”. The title practically explains itself. Laurie Anderson has won four award-winning novels, as well as five picture books.
